In 1893, a French chemist named Henri Moissan was examining fragments from a meteor crater in Canyon Diablo, Arizona. Inside the rock, he found a mineral no one had seen before — silicon carbide. Harder than almost anything on Earth. With a fire unlike any gemstone.

They named it moissanite. Not for what it wasn't. For what it was.
